Bedroom 21m2 in an apartment block – a modern design full of functional solutions
A spacious 21m2 bedroom is a level of comfort rarely found in apartments. That’s why, in this project, we focused on combining convenience, harmony, and everyday functionality. The bedroom serves a dual purpose here: it is both a place for rest and a comfortable, ergonomic space for remote work.
From the very beginning, our goal was to create an interior that promotes relaxation while also responding to modern needs – that’s why we combined the sleeping area with a home office zone in a way that does not disturb the visual order of the room.

Modern aesthetics and a calm color palette
The base of the design consists of warm beiges, complemented by natural wood and elegant black accents in the lighting and furnishings. This palette brings cohesion, adds a modern character to the interior, and at the same time does not overwhelm the space.
The natural wood pattern of the parquet floor was preserved, while a large, soft rug visually warms the area around the bed. Large mirrored wardrobe doors subtly enlarge the interior by reflecting light and adding elegance to the bedroom.

Wall behind the bed: MDF and fluted panels as a strong design feature
One of the key elements of this project is the wall behind the bed. It combines:
- MDF panels in a modern, geometric layout,
- decorative fluted panels,
- a subtle vertical LED line,
- and warm lighting in wooden niches.
This combination creates an eye-catching yet minimalist composition that beautifully organizes the space. Fluted panels add depth and natural texture, while MDF introduces elegant simplicity.
The result is decorative but not overpowering – an ideal backdrop for the upholstered bed and soft bedding.

Work zone in the bedroom – an ergonomic desk and subtle built-in elements
The homeowner also spends time working at a computer in this bedroom, so it was important to create a comfortable workspace that does not visually dominate the relaxation area.
We used:
- a modern height-adjustable desk,
- dual monitors,
- practical linear lighting,
- subtle vertical wall divisions that connect the work zone with the rest of the interior.
The desk was designed to look light and elegant – thanks to this, it does not disrupt the balance of the interior, even in such a representative space as a bedroom.

Lighting – a key element of the design
The project features three types of lighting:
1. Decorative ceiling lights with geometric rings
They create a hotel-like effect and add a unique atmosphere in the evening.
2. Accent LED lighting by the bed
Vertical, minimalist LED lights add elegance and visually elongate the wall.
3. Illuminated niches in the built-in furniture
Natural wood combined with warm light creates a cozy mood and highlights details.

Relaxation corner
In one corner of the room, we planned a comfortable armchair in a soft loft style with a wooden frame. It’s an ideal spot for reading, afternoon relaxation, or taking a short break from computer work.
A subtle floor lamp completes this zone and provides warm, directional light.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about designing a 21m2 bedroom
1. Can a sleeping area be combined with a workspace in a bedroom?
Yes – as long as the design takes ergonomics and aesthetic separation into account. In this project, we used light, modern wall built-ins that organize the space without disrupting harmony.
2. What lighting works best in a large bedroom?
We recommend combining three light sources: decorative main lighting, functional lighting by the bed (lamps or LEDs), and atmospheric lighting in built-ins or niches.
3. Are fluted panels suitable for a bedroom?
Yes – they are one of the most popular solutions for modern bedrooms. They are elegant, easy to maintain, add depth, and pair beautifully with textiles and MDF.
4. Why is it worth using MDF panels on walls?
MDF allows for decorative divisions, conceals installations, and introduces aesthetic minimalism. In a bedroom with smooth walls, MDF helps clearly organize the space.
5. Doesn’t a desk in the bedroom interfere with rest?
No, if it is well designed. In our project, the desk is visually light and discreetly placed, while the neutral color palette integrates the work zone into a harmonious whole.
6. What colors work best in a large bedroom?
Warm beiges, wood, grays, and black accents – a combination that brings calm and modernity while remaining timeless and easy to style.
7. How should you choose a rug for the bed area?
In a large bedroom, it’s best to choose a rug that extends beyond the outline of the bed. It provides comfort, warms the interior, and balances the room’s proportions.
8. What bed works best in a 21m2 bedroom?
An upholstered model in a neutral color is ideal. It’s comfortable, elegant, and pairs well with MDF and fluted wall panels.
9. Should a bedroom include an armchair?
If space allows – definitely yes. An armchair creates an additional relaxation zone and makes the bedroom more multifunctional.
10. What solutions increase bedroom functionality?
In this design, the following elements work particularly well:
- mirrored built-in furniture,
- minimalist bedside tables,
- illuminated niches,
- a dedicated work zone,
- LED lighting,
- a thoughtful color palette and symmetry.
11. How can cables and installations be hidden near a desk in the bedroom?
The best solution is to use MDF wall built-ins, which allow cables to be concealed while leaving only clean, aesthetic vertical divisions visible.
12. Would this type of design work in a smaller bedroom?
Yes – many elements such as fluted panels, vertical LED lighting, and a neutral color palette can be adapted to smaller spaces. Only the scale and furniture layout would change.
