Room for a 2-Year-Old Girl – 12m2 Safari-Style Design | Functional Children’s Interior
There are projects created for the “here and now”. And there are those designed to grow together with a child. This interior design project for a 2-year-old girl’s room with an area of 12m2 was created as a calm, natural space inspired by a safari theme – delicate, warm, yet functional and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail.
This interior arrangement combines soft beiges, light wood and a subtle giraffe wallpaper to create a sense of safety, while carefully planned zones support a young child’s daily rhythm. At Fabryka Projektów, we always say: a children’s room is not just about aesthetics – it is a tool for development, play and relaxation.

Room Analysis
The room measures 12m2 – a size that offers real design possibilities, but still requires thoughtful planning.
Design assumptions:
- a space for a 2-year-old girl
- a place for sleep, play and first manual activities
- plenty of closed storage
- safe, soft forms and natural materials
- a timeless base that will not feel outdated in two years
From an interior designer’s perspective, maintaining balance between function and aesthetics was crucial. The space had to feel cozy but not overly sweet. Thematic, yet not childish.
Design Concept and Key Interior Elements
Main Theme – Soft Safari
The giraffe wallpaper with subtle botanical motifs defines the character of the room, yet it is kept in a delicate, muted color palette. It does not dominate the space – it forms a gentle backdrop.

Sofa / Bed with Soft Lines
We used a low sofa with rounded armrests – without sharp edges. This solution is safe for a child, comfortable for a parent, and suitable for later years.

Storage Zone – Modular Built-In Units
One of the key elements of this interior arrangement is the extensive storage system: low cabinets with containers, house-shaped wall shelves, a bookcase and a dresser for clothes and textiles. Lower sections were designed so the child can independently reach toys.

Activity Zone
The natural wood desk currently serves as a table for creative play and will later become a study area. This is an example of long-term design thinking.
Functional Zones
Sleeping Zone
Located by the safari wallpaper wall – the coziest part of the room.
Play Zone
The central area features a large giraffe-patterned rug – soft and safe.
Storage Zone
Wall units and modular containers – organized and functional.
First Learning Zone
A desk and book shelves that help build early reading habits.

Material Details

When designing interiors for the youngest users, we focus not only on aesthetics but also on durability.
Interior Color Palette
Warm beiges, sandy tones, light wood and muted greens dominate. This palette supports calmness and creates a peaceful background for a child’s development.
