Room for an 11-Year-Old Girl – a Modern 9 m2 Bedroom in Soft Pink
Soft pink, light furniture, and a thoughtfully planned layout turned this small 9 m2 room for an 11-year-old girl into a comfortable bedroom, a study space, and a cozy relaxation zone. This project proves that even a limited space can look modern, airy, and “grown-up” — while still feeling beautifully feminine.
A small 9 m2 room for a girl – how to combine style, function, and comfort for a growing 11-year-old?
As a child grows, their needs and the way they use their room change. An 11-year-old girl needs more than just a place to play. This is a time of intensive learning, developing hobbies, first sleepovers with friends, and building a personal, more conscious sense of style. That’s why in this project we chose a modern, calm design in soft pink, complemented by light, smooth cabinet fronts, an ergonomic desk, and cohesive custom-built furniture.
The room is only 9 m2, but thanks to precise planning of the built-in wall with the bed, desk, and wardrobe, we managed to create three fully functional zones: sleeping, studying, and storage. A light color base, airy furniture forms, and LED lighting make the interior feel larger, brighter, and very well organized.
Desk by the window – an ergonomic study zone for an 11-year-old
One of the key assumptions of this project was creating a comfortable study and computer workstation. The desk was placed directly by the window to make the most of daylight. This layout supports concentration, and natural light is the healthiest option for a child’s eyes.
The desktop connects smoothly with the radiator cover, so we don’t lose a single centimeter of space. A comfortable swivel chair in pastel pink adjusts to the body, and its simple form doesn’t overwhelm the interior. Above the desk, there are closed cabinets and open shelves for storing books, binders, and small items needed for school.

A cozy sleeping zone – a bed with a tall headboard and delicate leaf wallpaper
The bed was placed along one wall to keep as much free space as possible in the center of the room. A tall, soft headboard in powder pink is decorative, but most importantly it provides comfort for reading and relaxing.
The wall behind the bed features a leaf-pattern wallpaper in soft, washed-out pink-beige tones. This makes the room feminine but not overly “sweet” — it suits both an 11-year-old and a teenager who will still be using the space in a few years. The wallpaper creates an eye-catching yet calm backdrop for textiles and accessories.

Books and decorations on shelves – a room between childhood and the teenage years
Next to the bed, we designed a tall bookcase with illuminated shelves that works as a mini library, a place for keepsakes, and a decorative feature. The shelves hold books, a framed photo, plush toys, and minimalist figurines. This way, the room keeps a touch of childhood charm while gaining a more “grown-up” feel.
Soft LED lighting inside the shelf niches adds coziness and creates atmosphere in the evening. It’s also a great way to display favorite items and introduce extra gentle light that doesn’t glare and works perfectly as indirect lighting.

A spacious wardrobe in a small 9 m2 room – ceiling-height built-in storage without visual clutter
One of the most important elements of the design is a large wardrobe with smooth fronts in a warm, light tone. The built-in unit goes all the way to the ceiling, maximizing the room height and allowing storage for seasonal clothes, suitcases, and less frequently used items.
Smooth matte fronts without visible divisions visually calm the space, while round pink handles add lightness and subtly echo the rest of the design. This type of wardrobe is perfect for a small girl’s room — it doesn’t dominate visually, while offering maximum storage.

Custom-made furniture – one cohesive wall unit with a desk and wardrobe
The entire built-in wall — from the desk, through the upper cabinets, to the wardrobe — was designed as one cohesive custom-made module. This removes the feeling of visual chaos and too many separate furniture blocks. All elements share the same color palette, front finish, and delicate pastel interior niches.
This design approach is especially important in small rooms of 8–9 m2. Instead of adding more freestanding furniture, it’s better to create one thoughtfully planned built-in solution that provides space for clothes, books, and school supplies — while keeping the interior visually light.

Textiles and accessories – soft pink, cozy fabrics, and friendly light
The mood of this room is created mainly by textiles and lighting. A soft bedspread, cushions in different shades of pink and beige, a small rug by the bed, and plush toys build a cozy atmosphere where a child loves spending time.
The lighting was planned in layers: linear LED lighting near the ceiling, track spotlights, a bedside lamp, and a desk lamp. This allows the girl to adjust the light to her current activity — studying, reading, relaxing, or winding down in the evening.

A well-planned layout for a small 9 m2 room – everything has its place
The entire project was developed so the room can grow together with the child. Soft pink combined with white, wood, and simple furniture forms creates a base that can easily be updated later with just a few accessories when the girl becomes a teenager.
Thanks to a clear division into sleeping, studying, and storage zones, as well as custom-made furniture and smart lighting, this 9 m2 room is functional every day — and also aesthetic, friendly, and aligned with the young owner’s dreams.

Designer’s comment
“When designing a room for an 11-year-old girl, the key is finding a balance between childlike lightness and a more mature character. Instead of intense pink, we chose soft powder tones, cohesive custom-built furniture, and plenty of light. The result is a room that won’t feel boring after a year — it will grow with its owner and easily adapt to the next stages of her life.” — Fabryka Projektów Team

FAQ – frequently asked questions about an 11-year-old girl’s room design (9 m2)
How do you design a small 9 m2 room for an 11-year-old girl?
Start with a good division into zones: sleeping, studying, and storage. Place the bed along the wall, the desk by the window, and plan the wardrobe as a tall, ceiling-height built-in unit. Light colors, custom-made furniture, and limiting freestanding pieces will make the room feel larger.
Won’t soft pink in a child’s room feel boring after a few years?
Powdery, muted pink is much more timeless than strong, saturated shades. Combined with white and wood, it creates a calm base that can easily be updated with accessories in other colors as a teenager’s taste changes.
What bed works best for a small girl’s room?
In a 9 m2 room, a bed placed along the wall is ideal, preferably with a storage box or drawers for bedding and seasonal items. A tall upholstered headboard adds comfort and coziness and also protects the wall from marks.
Does the desk have to be placed by the window?
It’s not mandatory, but it’s highly recommended. Daylight plays a huge role in study comfort. A desk by the window reduces eye strain and supports concentration. In this project, the desk was designed in that exact zone.
How do you fit a wardrobe in such a small room?
Instead of a standard low wardrobe, choose ceiling-height built-in storage. You gain extra upper shelves, and smooth fronts help the wardrobe blend in rather than dominate the room. A well-planned interior layout (rails, shelves, baskets) keeps clothes and accessories organized for years.
What lighting works best in an 11-year-old’s room?
Plan several light sources: general ceiling lighting, a desk lamp, a bedside lamp, and subtle decorative LED lighting (e.g., integrated into built-in furniture). This allows you to match light intensity to the child’s activities.
Is it worth investing in custom-made furniture in a child’s room?
In small interiors, it’s often the best solution. Custom-made furniture lets you use every centimeter, match desk height, wardrobe depth, and shelf layout to real needs. An additional benefit is a cohesive, tidy look across the entire built-in unit.
How do you combine childlike toys with a more “grown-up” interior style?
Plan a few dedicated display and storage spots: illuminated shelves, closed baskets, decorative boxes. This keeps favorite plush toys and keepsakes within reach, but avoids clutter and maintains a calm aesthetic.
What colors work well with a pink room?
White tones, warm beige, light wood, and accents in sage green, soft grey, or apricot work beautifully. This palette makes the room feel fresh, cozy, and modern.
Is it a good idea to use wallpaper on a whole wall in a small room?
Yes — as long as the pattern is delicate and the colors are soft. In this project, the leaf wallpaper adds character, but its pastel tone doesn’t overwhelm the space and pairs well with the furniture.
How do you keep a child’s room tidy every day?
The key is enough storage and simple organization systems: toy baskets, designated shelves for books, drawers for small items. The easier it is for a child to put things away, the more likely they will do it regularly.
Will this room also work for a teenager?
Yes. The base of light furniture, delicate wallpaper, and muted pink is very versatile. You can simply swap some decorations, posters, or textiles to give the room a more teen-friendly look without a full renovation.
Can I order a similar room design online?
