When designing a room for a young gaming enthusiast, we always aim to find a balance between functionality and the child’s imagination. In this case, we created a modern interior design that combines a gaming atmosphere with a comfortable space for studying, sleeping, and everyday relaxation.

This is an interior design where bold accents inspired by the world of gaming play a key role, while the overall composition remains cohesive, organized, and tailored to the user’s age. Green, black, light wood, and individually designed elements create a space that is modern, visually striking, and practical for everyday use.

What you will learn from this article

  • how to design a functional gaming room for a child,
  • which solutions work best in a 13m2 space,
  • how to combine gaming aesthetics with timeless interior design,
  • the role of custom-made furniture in a child’s room,
  • how to choose lighting, colors, and materials for a young gamer’s space,
  • how to divide the room into sleeping, study, and relaxation zones.

Room analysis

This project focuses on a 13m2 room designed to become a comfortable and visually appealing space for an 8-year-old boy. The goal was to create an interior that reflects the child’s interest in gaming while remaining functional, well-organized, and adaptable to changing needs in the future.

The room needed to combine several important functions. It had to provide a comfortable sleeping area, a practical study space, a place for play and relaxation, and sufficient storage. It was equally important that the interior design was not random or overly literal, but based on carefully considered design solutions.

From the very beginning of the concept phase, we knew that custom-built furniture would play a key role. It allowed us to fully utilize the wall layout, organize the space, and give the entire interior a cohesive look. This approach ensures that a well-designed children’s room is not only visually appealing but also durable and comfortable for everyday use.

Description of the concept and interior elements

Custom-made built-in furniture

All furniture in the room was designed and made to order. This allowed us to maximize the available space and tailor each element to the user’s specific needs. The design includes spacious wardrobes, open shelving units, and a desk integrated into the built-in structure, creating a cohesive and modern look.

Light-colored fronts were combined with wood finishes to bring warmth into the space. This visual balance softens the stronger gaming accents and prevents the room from feeling too dark or overwhelming.

Upholstered panel above the bed

One of the most distinctive elements of this design is the decorative upholstered panel above the bed, custom-made to order. Its shape is inspired by headphones, subtly emphasizing the gaming theme in an aesthetic and original way.

This feature is not only decorative but also functional. The upholstered panel improves comfort, visually softens the space, and becomes a focal point of the entire interior. We particularly value solutions that combine aesthetics with practicality, as they create truly timeless interiors.

Console-inspired neon sign

On the wall near the desk, we installed a neon sign inspired by console controller symbols. This element was also custom-made, allowing us to perfectly match its size, layout, and style to the overall concept.

The neon acts as a strong decorative accent without overwhelming the space. Combined with the darker wall, it creates a gaming-inspired atmosphere while maintaining a clean and organized look.

Desk and shelving by the window

The study area was placed by the window to ensure maximum access to natural light. The desk has a simple, functional form and is integrated with a shelving unit. Shelves with subtle LED lighting serve both practical and decorative purposes, providing space for books, small items, and personal belongings.

We wanted the study area to feel like a natural part of the overall design. This ensures that the desk does not appear as a random addition, but as a cohesive element of the entire interior.

Multimedia zone

Opposite the bed, we designed a multimedia zone with a TV and gaming console. The wall behind it is enhanced with vertical wooden slats, adding rhythm, elegance, and warmth to the space.

A simple cabinet below helps maintain order without visually cluttering the room. As a result, the gaming and relaxation area remains functional while not dominating the entire interior.

Functional zones

In this project, we clearly divided the room into three main functional zones that reflect the child’s daily activities. This division is especially important in smaller spaces, as it helps maintain order and improves usability.

Sleeping zone

The sleeping area is centered around a comfortable bed with a distinctive upholstered panel. It is visually attractive while also providing a sense of comfort and coziness. In children’s interiors, it is essential that the sleeping area supports relaxation despite the presence of more dynamic elements.

Study zone

The study area is located by the window and includes an ergonomic desk and comfortable chair. It is designed for homework, drawing, reading, and developing interests. Integrating the desk with built-in furniture helps maintain order and provides sufficient storage space.

Relaxation and gaming zone

The relaxation and gaming area includes a TV, console, and open space for everyday use. Its character is enhanced by neon accents, graphics, and more dynamic decorative elements. This is where the gaming inspiration is most visible.

This division allows the room to meet specific needs while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.

Material details

The selection of materials played a crucial role in this project. We focused on durability, ease of maintenance, and resistance to everyday use. This is especially important in a child’s room that serves multiple functions.

The built-in furniture features smooth, light surfaces combined with wood textures. This creates a modern yet warm atmosphere. The upholstered panel softens the space, while black accents in lighting and accessories enhance the contemporary character.

LED lighting integrated into furniture and indirect ceiling lighting add depth and create a dynamic atmosphere at different times of the day.

Color scheme

The color palette is based on a balanced combination of neutral tones and bold accents. Light walls and furniture, natural wood, and black details create a calm base, while strong green accents introduce a gaming-inspired identity.

Green is used thoughtfully, adding energy without overwhelming the space. It appears in textiles, accents, and decorative elements. This approach ensures the interior remains expressive yet well-balanced.

Black elements add a modern touch, while wood tones maintain a warm and child-friendly atmosphere.

Design team insights

While working on this project, we wanted to avoid an overly literal or short-lived effect. A gaming room for a child does not have to be filled with excessive thematic elements. A well-designed base, built from durable materials and thoughtful furniture, works much better.

That is why we chose custom-made elements such as the upholstered panel, neon sign, and all built-in furniture. This allowed us to control proportions, maintain consistency, and create a space that stands out while remaining practical.

From our perspective, the greatest value of this project lies in combining aesthetics with everyday comfort. This is an interior that not only looks good in visualizations but also works perfectly in real life.
