10.28 m² Room Design for a 10-Year-Old Boy in Warsaw – Modern BMW-Inspired Interior
How do you design a room for a 10-year-old boy so that it reflects his interests, is comfortable for everyday use, provides plenty of storage space and, at the same time, does not feel too childish in just a few years? For this Fabryka Projektów project, we worked with a room measuring 3.45 × 2.98 m, giving us exactly 10.28 m² of space.
The room is located in Warsaw and was designed for a 10-year-old boy. The main theme of the interior is automotive design, with a particular focus on BMW. However, we wanted the child’s interests to appear mainly in accessories and decorations, while the overall base of the room remained modern, bright and timeless.
A 10.28 m² Room for a 10-Year-Old – How to Make the Most of a Small Space?
When the room is only around 10 m², every part of the available space matters. We needed to find room for a comfortable bed, a large wardrobe, a study and computer area, shelving for books and collections, as well as enough closed storage.
Instead of using many separate pieces of furniture, we designed a coherent built-in furniture system that makes use of the room’s height while leaving as much open floor space as possible in the centre. As a result, despite the number of functions included, the interior does not feel overcrowded.
Large Wardrobe and Custom-Built Furniture – Maximum Storage Without Overcrowding the Room
One of the most important elements of the design is the spacious wardrobe positioned next to the bed. The built-in furniture extends high up the wall, allowing us to make effective use of both the width and height of the room.
The light-coloured fronts make the large piece of furniture visually blend into the wall, preventing it from overwhelming the small interior. Long black handles create contrast and give the furniture a more youthful, contemporary character. The lower drawers provide additional storage for clothes, accessories and everyday items.
The light furniture has been combined with wood-effect elements. This makes the room feel warmer and more inviting while maintaining its modern character.
Bed Area with a BMW Theme
The most distinctive part of the interior is the area around the bed. The wall features a large graphic depicting a BMW car. Intense shades of blue, yellow and red bring energy to the otherwise calm colour palette and immediately reflect the interests of the room’s young owner.
The automotive character is further emphasised by decorative elements inspired by BMW M and a rug featuring the brand’s characteristic colours. By introducing these themes mainly through accessories, the interior can be relatively easily updated in the future without replacing the entire furniture system.
The upholstered bed in a neutral colour has been positioned against the wall so that it does not dominate the space. The soft headboard improves comfort, while a small bedside table with a lamp provides a convenient place for a book, phone or other small items.
Shelves Above the Bed – Space for Books, LEGO and Collections
A room for a 10-year-old also needs space for the things the child wants to display. Above the bed, we designed an extensive arrangement of open shelves finished in a warm wood effect.
The shelves can be used for books, models, LEGO sets, headphones, souvenirs and collections. Black metal structural elements coordinate with the wardrobe handles and the furniture used in the computer area.
Additional LED lighting has been installed beneath the shelves. In the evening, it creates a pleasant atmosphere while highlighting the furniture and decorative items.
A Study Desk and Computer Station
At the age of 10, a well-designed study area becomes one of the most important parts of a child’s room. We therefore planned a large desk that provides enough space for both homework and computer use.
The wood-effect desktop has been combined with a black frame and a light-coloured drawer unit. Above the desk, we added open shelving and closed cabinets, giving books, notebooks and school supplies their own dedicated storage space.
An ergonomic gaming-style chair reflects the boy’s interests while also fitting well with the modern character of the entire room.
A Child’s Room That Does Not Feel Too Childish
When designing a room for a 10-year-old, it is worth remembering that this is a space somewhere between a child’s bedroom and a teenager’s room. At this age, children quickly change their interests, needs and the way they use their personal space.
For this reason, the foundation of the interior is based on neutral colours – white, light wood, grey, black and navy blue. Stronger colours appear mainly in the car wall graphic, rug and decorative accessories.
This approach means that in a few years it will be enough to replace some accessories, posters or textiles to completely change the character of the room and adapt it to the needs of a teenager.
LED Lighting as Part of the Boy’s Room Design
Several types of lighting have been used throughout the project. In addition to the main lighting, LED strips installed near the ceiling and beneath the built-in furniture play an important role.
The subtle light highlights the lines of the furniture, visually lightens the built-in elements and creates a completely different atmosphere in the room in the evening. The desk area also has its own dedicated lighting.
In a child’s or teenager’s room, well-planned lighting is important for more than just decoration. Different light sources make it possible to adapt the room to studying, using a computer, reading or relaxing.
Navy Curtains and Light Walls – Colour Scheme for a Small Room
With a total area of 10.28 m², maintaining a light base was particularly important. White and cream surfaces reflect light and prevent the large built-in furniture from dominating the interior.
The navy curtains provide a stronger colour accent. Their shade coordinates with the blue elements used around the bed and with the automotive-inspired decorations. The wooden floor and wood-effect furniture details warm up the overall design, ensuring that the room does not feel cold despite the use of white, black and navy blue.
10 m² Boy’s Room Design – Functionality Comes First
This project shows that even a room of approximately 10 m² can accommodate all the essential functions required by an older child. The key is the right furniture layout and effective use of both the walls and the height of the room.
Within the 10.28 m² space, we were able to create a comfortable sleeping area, a large study and computer station, a spacious wardrobe, drawers and extensive shelving. At the same time, we maintained comfortable circulation and avoided filling the centre of the room with additional furniture.
A Child’s Interests Do Not Have to Dominate the Entire Interior
A car-themed room does not have to mean an interior that will need to be completely redesigned after just two years. In this project, the BMW theme is clearly visible, but it has primarily been used to personalise the space.
The main furniture remains universal and timeless. If the boy’s interests change in the future, the wall graphic, rug and decorative accessories can be replaced while keeping the wardrobe, desk, shelving and other built-in furniture.
How Can You Order an Individual Child’s Room Design?
Every room has different dimensions, window and door positions, as well as different requirements depending on its user. This is why an individually prepared interior design makes it possible to use the available space much more effectively than selecting random furniture during the furnishing stage.

FAQ – Room Design for a 10-Year-Old
How do you design a 10 m² room for a 10-year-old boy?
The most important step is to create separate areas for sleeping, studying and storage. In a small room, it is worth using tall built-in furniture, wall-mounted cabinets and shelves to leave as much floor space free as possible.
Can a large desk and spacious wardrobe fit into a 10 m² room?
Yes. With a well-planned functional layout, it is possible to combine a full-size study station with a large wardrobe as well as additional drawers and shelving.
How do you design a child’s room that will still work for a teenager?
The best solution is to choose a neutral furniture base and introduce the child’s current interests through decorations, posters, wall graphics, rugs and textiles. This makes it much easier to update the character of the room in the future.
Can a child’s room interior design be created online?
Yes. An interior design can be prepared remotely based on the room dimensions, photographs, floor plan and information about the user’s needs and preferences.
