Gaming room for an 8-year-old – gamepad wallpaper, gaming rug and desk for a young gamer
There are projects that are simply meant to look good. And there are those designed to evoke emotions. This gaming room for an 8-year-old with an area of 10,17m2 (3.7 x 2.75 m) was created from the second need – it was meant to fulfill a young gamer’s dream, while remaining a well-thought-out, functional and timeless space.

From the very beginning, we knew one thing: this was not supposed to be a “loud gaming-themed room,” but a conscious interior design arrangement where the gaming vibe is a strong accent rather than chaotic decoration. The gamepad wallpaper, gaming rug, desk for a young gamer and LED lighting were all subordinated to ergonomics, proportion and everyday comfort.

Room analysis – 10,17m2 that had to fit everything
The room measures 10,17m2 with dimensions of 3.7 x 2.75 m. It’s a typical developer-standard space – narrow, elongated, with one window on the shorter wall.
Main user needs
- a comfortable bed
- a full-size desk for studying and gaming
- a spacious wardrobe
- space for books and small items
- a gaming vibe – but “not like an arcade”
The biggest challenge was proportion. In such a narrow space, it’s easy to create a cluttered effect. That’s why the functional layout was designed linearly – maintaining a clear circulation axis and readable zoning.
Our goal was to create an interior project that feels visually dynamic yet calm in everyday use.
Concept – a strong accent with a calm base
Gaming wallpaper with a gamepad – the focal point

The strongest element of the design is the wallpaper featuring a neon-style game controller motif. We placed it on just one wall – behind the bed.
This was intentional. In small rooms, too many bold patterns create chaos. Here, the wallpaper acts as a backdrop – building atmosphere without competing with the rest of the furnishings.
This is a classic principle in children’s interior design: one strong motif, the rest neutral.
Gaming rug – a detail that organizes the zone

The rug with the gamepad motif is not a random accessory. It visually connects the space between the bed and the desk. It introduces color while remaining consistent with the wallpaper’s style.
We carefully considered proportion – the rug couldn’t be too large, so it wouldn’t visually dominate the floor. In a small room, lightness matters.
Gaming desk – ergonomics over effect

Although the gaming vibe is strong, functionality was the priority.
The desk positioned by the window:
- provides access to natural light
- allows comfortable monitor placement
- maintains circulation space
The gaming chair was selected proportionally to the child’s age. In designing a room for an 8-year-old, ergonomics are more important than the “wow” effect.
This is why we always emphasize in our studio – a good interior project is not just about aesthetics, but conscious functional decisions.
LED lighting – atmosphere without exaggeration

We implemented:
- LED strips along the ceiling
- subtle wall backlighting
- spot lighting above the built-in units
LED lighting creates atmosphere but also serves a functional role – allowing different lighting scenarios: studying, relaxing, evening wind-down.
This is essential in a child’s room where many hours are spent daily.
Functional zones – order in a small space
We clearly divided the room into three zones:
1. Relaxation zone
The bed with the gaming wallpaper backdrop creates a visually enclosed and safe area.
2. Study and gaming zone
The desk by the window ensures natural light, ergonomics and appropriate countertop depth.
3. Storage zone
The light wood built-in furniture visually warms the interior and balances the bold wall motif.
The zoning remains clear despite the room having only 10m2. This is the key to good interior inspiration – proving that even small spaces can be thoughtfully designed.

Material details – durability and consistency
In a child’s room, materials must be durable.
We used:
- light wood-finish furniture boards
- high-durability vinyl wallpaper
- flooring with high abrasion resistance
- easy-to-clean textiles
The gaming atmosphere is one thing, but everyday life is another. The child needs to live, play and study here.
Interior color palette – balance between energy and calm
The dominant colors are:
- black (accent)
- neon shades of blue and pink
- light wood
- neutral gray
The contrast is controlled. A bold wall with a gamepad motif requires a calm background. That’s why the rest of the interior remains subdued.
This is a conscious method of building color tension – often used in professional interior design.
Fabryka Projektów team comment
While designing this room, we asked ourselves: how can we create a space that fulfills an 8-year-old’s dream without becoming outdated in two years?
That’s why gaming is a motif, not the structural foundation of the entire interior. In the future, the wallpaper or rug can be changed, while the base – built-in furniture and functional layout – will remain relevant.
This is our design philosophy: emotions + functionality + future-oriented thinking.
