13-Year-Old Girl's Bedroom Design in Ślęza – Cashmere Furniture, Large Desk and Subtle Coastal Style
How do you design a room for a 13-year-old girl so that it is youthful, functional and timeless enough not to require a complete makeover in just two or three years? This was exactly the challenge we faced while creating this interior design for a client from Ślęza.
This interior had to combine many different functions. The room needed to provide a comfortable study area, plenty of storage space for art supplies, a relaxation zone, a place for cosmetics and getting ready, space for plants, as well as the possibility of accommodating a large terrarium measuring 120 × 60 × 60 cm.
At the same time, both the client and her daughter wanted a bright, calm interior with cashmere-coloured furniture and subtle details inspired by the sea.
The result is a bright and cosy teenage girl's bedroom that no longer feels like a typical child's room, while still retaining the light and youthful character suitable for a 13-year-old.

Cashmere as the base colour for a teenager's bedroom
One of the most important design assumptions was the colour scheme. The client particularly liked cashmere-coloured furniture, which is why this shade became the foundation of the entire built-in furniture design.
Cashmere works particularly well in a teenager's bedroom. It is warmer than classic white while remaining neutral and visually light. This makes it easy to change the character of the room in the future with textiles, decorations or posters without having to replace the entire furniture arrangement.
In this project, we combined cashmere-coloured furniture with:
- white,
- off-white tones,
- soft beige shades,
- light flooring,
- green plants,
- subtle brown and sandy accents.
The result is a calm and timeless base that works perfectly now and can continue to suit the teenager for years to come.
A large desk for a creative 13-year-old girl
One of the most important elements of the project was a large desk with an extended worktop.
The client's daughter owns a large collection of art supplies, including paints, drawing accessories and various creative materials. A standard small desk with just a few drawers would therefore not have provided enough space.
For this reason, the study zone was designed as an extensive custom-built furniture system.

The long worktop provides plenty of space for studying, using a computer, drawing and developing artistic interests. Spacious drawers have been incorporated on both sides, while additional cabinets and open shelving have been designed above the desk.
The built-in furniture reaches almost to the ceiling, allowing the vertical space in the room to be used efficiently.
This is particularly important in children's and teenagers' rooms, as the number of books, school supplies, cosmetics and hobby-related items usually increases year after year.
Floor-to-ceiling furniture and maximum storage space
Providing plenty of storage was one of the client's main requirements.
Instead of using several separate pieces of furniture, we designed a cohesive custom-made built-in furniture system.
It includes closed cabinets, drawers and numerous open shelves. Some items can therefore be completely hidden away, while books, decorations, photographs and favourite objects can remain on display.
Tall wardrobes make it possible to use virtually the full height of the room.

This solution has another important advantage: despite the large amount of storage space, the interior still looks neat and organised. Instead of several unrelated bookcases and cabinets, the room features one consistent furniture composition.
A dressing table integrated with the desk area
At the age of 13, a bedroom begins to serve slightly different purposes than it did just a few years earlier. One of the client's wishes was therefore to create space for a small dressing table and a mirror.
Instead of introducing another freestanding piece of furniture, we extended the desk area.
The long worktop can therefore perform two functions – one side is used for studying and creative activities, while the other creates a compact dressing table area.
Its main feature is a large round mirror with decorative LED lighting.

This solution allowed us to create a clearly defined dressing area without taking up additional floor space.
A lightweight upholstered chair was placed next to the dressing table, along with convenient space for cosmetics and small accessories.
The existing white 120 × 200 cm bed remains in the room
The family already owned a white bed with a sleeping area of 120 × 200 cm, so one of the design requirements was to incorporate it into the new arrangement.
The bed includes a drawer, providing additional storage space – a highly practical solution in a teenager's bedroom.
In the new design, the bed was complemented by a tall, soft upholstered headboard in a light fabric. This makes the sleeping area feel more comfortable and visually separates it from the study zone.
A long shelf above the bed provides additional space for books and decorations while making efficient use of the wall.

Coastal wallpaper instead of typically childish decorations
The client wanted to introduce coastal-inspired accessories, including seashells, artwork and posters.
However, we did not want the room to resemble a typical children's bedroom dominated by a strong theme.
For this reason, the coastal character was introduced in a subtle and sophisticated way.
The wall next to the bed is decorated with light wallpaper featuring a delicate pattern of seashells, starfish and other sea-inspired elements. Its neutral sandy and beige colour palette works beautifully with the cashmere furniture.

The theme is clearly visible, yet it does not dominate the entire interior.
This also makes it easy to change the character of the bedroom in the future without having to replace all of the furniture.
Decorative lighting without a suspended ceiling
One of the requirements was to keep a traditional ceiling without plasterboard suspended ceiling structures.
This does not mean, however, that the room had to compromise on attractive lighting.
Simple modern spotlights were installed on the ceiling to provide the main source of light in the room.
Additional lighting appears in individual functional zones. Lighting around the mirror highlights the dressing table area, while decorative lights on the wallpapered wall create a cosy atmosphere in the evening.
Thanks to several independent light sources, the teenager can adjust the atmosphere of the room depending on whether she is studying, relaxing or preparing for the evening.
Plants in a teenager's bedroom
The design also includes plenty of space for plants.
Greenery beautifully breaks up the calm cashmere and beige colour palette. Trailing plants placed on tall shelving units and above the built-in furniture introduce a natural accent and prevent the bright interior from feeling too sterile.
This is an excellent way to bring life into a neutral room without introducing large areas of intense colour.
Space for a keyboard and the teenager's interests
A 13-year-old girl's room should not be just a bedroom and a place for doing homework. It should also provide space for developing hobbies and interests.
For this reason, the layout includes space for a keyboard without interfering with the main circulation routes through the room.

A notice board was also planned on the wall above the instrument. It can be used for schedules, reminders, important dates, notes and creative inspiration.
It is a relatively small feature, but one that fits perfectly into the everyday needs of a young person.
Space for a large terrarium – a functional design challenge
One of the more unusual requirements was to accommodate a terrarium measuring 120 × 60 × 60 cm.
When designing an interior like this, it is important to consider much more than just the appearance of the furniture. Every large additional element affects circulation and the positioning of the remaining furnishings.
The planned terrarium therefore had to be taken into account from the very beginning of the functional layout, while maintaining enough space for a comfortable desk, a full-size bed and the required amount of storage.
This is exactly the kind of room where an individually designed interior has a significant advantage over furnishing the space with randomly selected ready-made furniture.
The light Shaggy Cloud rug adds warmth to the interior
The family also already owned a Shaggy Cloud Super Soft Offwhite rug measuring 140 × 200 cm.
Its light colour fits perfectly into the overall design. The soft texture balances the clean surfaces of the built-in furniture and makes the room feel more comfortable and inviting.
The rug also creates a soft central zone within the room without visually competing with the wallpaper or the greenery of the plants.
A bedroom design that can grow with the teenager
When designing a teenager's bedroom, it is important not to base the entire interior on a child's current interests or favourite theme.
What appeals to a 13-year-old may be completely different when she is 16 or 17.
For this reason, the most expensive and permanent elements of this project – the custom-built furniture, desk, wardrobes and bed – remain neutral and timeless.
The character of the interior is created primarily through:
- cashmere and light neutral colours,
- subtle wallpaper,
- plants,
- decorative lighting,
- textiles,
- accessories.
If the room owner's interests change in a few years, replacing decorations, posters or selected textiles will be enough to give the bedroom a completely new character.
A functional room for a 13-year-old girl – the right layout is key
Within a single room, we managed to combine several independent zones: a sleeping area, an extensive study and creative workspace, a dressing table, plenty of storage, space for a musical instrument, plants and elements connected with the teenager's interests.
This project demonstrates that a teenager's bedroom does not need to be overloaded with colours and decorations to have a distinctive and individual character.
Functionality is the key element here, while the calm cashmere and beige colour palette keeps the entire interior light, cosy and elegant.
