How can you fit a bed, a desk and storage into a girl’s room measuring just 7 m²? In our design for Zofia from Koszalin, we combined tall cabinetry with a study area and placed an upholstered bed against the opposite wall. Light cabinet fronts, a mirrored wardrobe and pastel accents create a calm backdrop for the room’s most decorative feature: wallpaper with large flowers.

This is a small room where the relationship between individual pieces of furniture matters. The desk forms part of a larger fitted unit, cabinets make use of the space above the desktop, and the bed with cushions also provides somewhere to relax during the day. **The images shown are visualisations of the design created by Fabryka Projektów.**

## Key project details

- **Designed for:** Zofia.

- **Location:** Koszalin.

- **Floor area:** 7 m².

- **Functions:** sleeping, relaxing, studying and storage.

- **Colour palette:** light greys, creamy beiges and pastel pink.

- **Distinctive features:** cabinetry with an integrated desk, mirrored wardrobe doors, space for an aquarium and floral wallpaper.

## How did we plan the layout of this 7 m² girl’s room?

The layout is based on arranging the furniture along two opposite walls. One side accommodates a fitted unit combining a wardrobe, drawers, a desk and upper cabinets. The other side is dedicated to the bed. The window at the far end of the room brings daylight into both areas.

**Concentrating storage along one wall allowed us to reduce the number of separate freestanding pieces.** We did not add a separate bookcase or chest of drawers. Instead, their functions are incorporated into the fitted cabinetry.

In a room of this size, simply fitting the furniture onto a floor plan is not enough. You also need to check the space required to pull out the chair, open the drawers and access the wardrobe. These everyday actions reveal whether the chosen layout will be comfortable to use.

## Cabinetry with an integrated desk: several functions along one wall

In Zofia’s room, the furniture forms a cohesive arrangement. The tall wardrobe connects to a section with drawers and an aquarium recess, which then continues into the desktop. Open pink shelves and enclosed cabinets sit above the study area.

This arrangement allows belongings to be organised according to how they are used. Stationery and small items can go in the drawers beside the desktop, books on the open shelves, and less frequently needed belongings in the upper cabinets. High storage compartments are best reserved for items retrieved with an adult’s help.

The light cabinet fronts give the extensive fitted unit a calmer appearance. Pink appears in the recesses, around the desktop and on the handles, visually connecting the individual sections.

## A mirrored wardrobe in a small room

Near the entrance, we designed a tall wardrobe with mirrored doors and additional cabinets above. The mirrors reflect light and the floral wallpaper on the opposite wall, making the interior appear deeper.

This visual effect complements the functional layout. Storage capacity comes from making use of the furniture’s height, while the mirrors help soften the visual impact of the large wardrobe. Matching pink handles connect it to the rest of the furniture.

## A desk near the window and space for an aquarium

We positioned the desk against the side wall, close to the window. The desktop remains part of the fitted unit, while the adjacent drawers provide storage for everyday essentials without adding a separate drawer pedestal in the walkway.

The aquarium is another eye-catching feature in this part of the room. It has its own space beside the study area, leaving the main work surface free. When creating a similar arrangement, it is important to account for the weight of the filled tank, protect the furniture from water and provide access for maintenance and connections.

When planning a child’s workspace, desktop height, legroom and chair positioning should be considered together. You can find more guidance in our article on [where to position a desk in a child’s room and how to choose its dimensions](https://f-projektow.pl/en/biurko-w-pokoju-dziecka-gdzie-ustawic-i-jak-dobrac-wymiary.htm).

## Storage and lighting around the study area

Open shelves above the desk provide space for books and small decorations. Shallow drawers beneath the desktop keep small items tucked away, preventing them from taking over the work surface.

The visualisations show a desk lamp with an adjustable arm and an additional pendant light on the right side of the desktop. When furnishing the room, task lighting should be positioned to suit the way the child works, so their hand does not block the light while writing.

## An upholstered bed against floral wallpaper

On the opposite side of the room is a light-coloured bed with an upholstered backrest along the wall and at one end. Cushions in shades of pink and beige make it a comfortable place to sit, read and relax during the day.

The wall behind the bed is covered in wallpaper featuring large flowers. Its soft, muted colours echo the furniture and textiles. We concentrated the bold pattern on a single surface, keeping the other elements of the interior more understated.

**A small room does not have to be free of decoration.** In this design, a single large wall composition adds character instead of numerous small ornaments taking up shelves and desktop space. We also placed a wall light beside the bed, removing the need for an additional table to hold a lamp.

## Light colours and several types of lighting

The room’s colour palette combines light cabinet fronts, beige upholstery, pink accents and flooring with the appearance of light wood. Curtains and a sheer curtain complement this palette, while small black details appear in features such as the lights and door handle.

We divided the lighting into several functions. Spotlights are mounted on the ceiling, linear lighting runs along its edges, the desk has its own lamp, and the bed has a wall light. Each area of the room therefore has its own light source.

The view towards the door clearly shows the relationship between the bed and the desk. When adapting a similar concept to another room, the walkway width and the chair’s range of movement need to be checked again. A floor area of 7 m² alone does not mean that two rooms offer the same layout possibilities.

## How should you budget for furnishing a similar room?

**The cost of furnishing a 7 m² room depends primarily on the scope of work and the chosen furnishings.** A small floor area reduces the quantities of some materials, but a bed, study area, storage and lighting are still needed. Extensive cabinetry tailored to the interior can account for a significant share of the cost.

It is helpful to divide the budget into:

- **Design:** the scope of the design service and the documentation required.

- **Furniture and equipment:** fitted cabinetry, a bed, mattress, chair and additional furnishings.

- **Finishing materials:** paint, wallpaper, flooring and trim, if these are being replaced.

- **Lighting and electrical work:** light fittings, switches and sockets, and any relocation of electrical points.

- **Labour:** surface preparation, painting, wallpapering and installation.

- **Transport and contingency:** delivery, carrying items into the property and unforeseen work.

We do not provide an implementation cost for Zofia’s room, because visualisations alone are not a cost estimate. A reliable quotation requires product specifications, furniture construction details and contractor quotes. The contingency allowance is best determined after assessing the room’s condition and the scope of the renovation.

## Frequently asked questions about a 7 m² girl’s room

## Can a bed, desk and wardrobe fit into a 7 m² room?

Yes, as Zofia’s design demonstrates. However, the possibilities depend on the room’s proportions and the positions of the window, door and radiator. In this interior, we placed fitted cabinetry along one wall and the bed opposite.

## How can you use the space above the desk?

You can include open shelves and enclosed cabinets. Leave comfortable clearance above the desktop and keep frequently used items within the child’s reach. Upper storage compartments are better suited to belongings needed less often.

## Does a large floral pattern work in a small room?

It can look good if its colours complement the rest of the interior. In Zofia’s room, the floral wallpaper is behind the bed, while light furniture and understated textiles balance the decorative pattern.

## Can photographs be used to estimate the cost of a similar interior?

Photographs help establish the style and the range of furnishings, but they are not enough for an accurate quotation. Dimensions, selected materials, product models and the scope of installation and renovation work are also required.

## Would you like to furnish a small room for your daughter?

In our design for Zofia from Koszalin, we combined storage and study space in one fitted unit, while an upholstered bed and floral wallpaper gave the relaxation area its character. This is an example of a design tailored to a specific 7 m² interior.
