A minimalist room for a teenage girl does not have to feel cold, empty or lacking in character. The best results come from combining **a bright, calm base with natural wood, soft fabrics and warm lighting**. This was exactly the approach we took when designing a room for 13-year-old Lidia from Rzeszów.

Lidia wanted a calm and minimalist interior dominated by **white and wood**. At the same time, the room needed to provide a comfortable place for studying, relaxing and spending time every day. Instead of using many decorative elements, we focused on clearly defined functional zones, simple forms and a few details that make the interior feel warm and welcoming.

## What solutions did we use in Lidia’s room?

The most important goal was to maintain visual order without sacrificing functionality. The room therefore includes:

- a long desk positioned by the window,

- a tall shelving unit for books and small accessories,

- a separate relaxation area with two armchairs and a small table,

- an upholstered bed with additional storage space,

- a decorative wall finished with vertical wooden slats,

- a shelf above the bed for books and decorations,

- subtle LED lighting,

- white, light wood and beige fabrics as the main colour palette.

As a result, the room feels organised without looking sterile. It has a calm character suitable for a teenager and, at the same time, a timeless base that should remain attractive for many years.

## How can you make a minimalist room for a 13-year-old girl feel warm and cosy?

The simplest solution is to combine **white with wood and soft-textured materials**.

In Lidia’s room, bright walls and simple furniture create a neutral background. Warm wood tones appear on the floor, shelving units, shelves and decorative wall elements. Cream and beige fabrics complete the design.

This is important because a minimalist interior should not mean an interior without warmth. In this room, the cosy atmosphere is created not by additional colours, but by **materials, lighting and textures**.

## What was the biggest challenge in this project?

The main challenge was to combine several different functions without introducing too much furniture.

A teenager’s room should provide space for studying and sleeping, but at the age of 13 it is also increasingly important to have a place to read, relax or spend time with friends.

Instead of filling the entire room with built-in furniture, we created a separate **relaxation area with two armchairs and a small table** next to the large windows. This solution clearly distinguishes the project from a typical teenage room consisting only of a bed, desk and wardrobe.

## Why did we place the desk by the window?

Positioning the desk near the window makes it possible to take advantage of natural daylight while studying.

In Lidia’s room, we designed a long worktop that provides plenty of space for books, notebooks, a computer and everyday accessories. Next to it is a tall shelving unit, which allows the most frequently used items to be stored close to the study area.

The built-in furniture was designed so that it would not look like a heavy block of cabinetry. Open wooden shelves, integrated lighting and a glazed section of the shelving unit make the study area an attractive decorative feature of the room as well.

When designing a desk under or next to a window, it is always important to check the height of the windowsill, the way the window opens, the location of the radiator and whether there is enough space to use the chair comfortably. For this reason, this type of solution should not be copied without taking the actual dimensions of the room into account.

## How can you create a real relaxation area in a teenager’s room?

An additional sofa is not always necessary. In this interior, **two comfortable armchairs and a small side table** were enough.

Placed next to the large windows, they create a cosy place for reading, listening to music or talking with a friend. At the same time, the visually lightweight furniture helps maintain a sense of spaciousness.

This solution shows that when designing a teenage room, it is worth thinking not only about where the teenager will sleep and do homework, but also about **how they actually spend time in their room**.

## How did we design the sleeping area?

The sleeping area was designed as the cosiest part of the room.

The upholstered bed is surrounded by a soft panel that functions as a headboard. Behind it, the wall is finished with vertical wooden slats, which add rhythm and texture without the need for strong colours or patterned wallpaper.

Above the bed, we designed a long shelf for books and decorative accessories. Its lower section is highlighted with integrated lighting, making it possible to create a much calmer atmosphere in the evening than with the main ceiling lighting alone.

An additional advantage is the storage space underneath the bed. In a teenage room, every extra storage solution helps reduce the need for additional freestanding cabinets.

## White and wood in a teenager’s room – is this combination too calm?

No, as long as the interior is properly diversified through materials and textures.

In Lidia’s room, colour is not the main decorative element. Instead, the design relies on:

- vertical wooden slats,

- natural wood grain,

- upholstered surfaces,

- sheer curtains,

- illuminated shelves,

- delicate black picture frames,

- books and personal accessories.

This allows the room to maintain its minimalist character without looking monotonous.

Importantly, such a neutral base also provides plenty of flexibility for the future. Changing a few prints, textiles or decorations can completely transform the character of the room without replacing the main furniture.

## What lighting works best in a minimalist teenage room?

It is best to combine several sources of light rather than relying on a single ceiling lamp.

In this project, we used general lighting as well as functional and decorative lighting. There is a desk lamp for studying, subtle lighting integrated into the shelving units and additional light near the bed that highlights the wooden slats and creates a pleasant atmosphere in the evening.

This approach makes it possible to adapt the lighting to different activities taking place in the room – studying, reading or relaxing.

## How can you design a teenager’s room that will not feel too childish after a year?

The safest solution is to create **a timeless base and use accessories for elements that may change over time**.

In Lidia’s room, we avoided a dominant theme and very intense colours. The furniture, bed, wood finishes and light-coloured walls can remain suitable for many years.

The owner’s personality is expressed through artwork, books and small decorative details. If Lidia’s interests change, these elements can easily be replaced without having to redesign the entire room.

## What should you remember when designing a minimalist room for a teenager?

Minimalism in a teenage room should primarily mean **good organisation**, not giving up useful furniture or accessories.

Before choosing furniture, it is worth determining how much space is needed for studying, what items need to be stored, whether the teenager needs space for friends and how much of the room can be dedicated to relaxation.

Only then should specific furniture and furnishings be selected.

Lidia’s room also shows that you do not need many colours to create an interesting interior. White, wood, beige and well-planned lighting were enough to create a calm, modern room suited to the needs of a 13-year-old girl.

## Individual teenage room interior design

Every room has different dimensions, window and door positions, and the person using it has different needs. For this reason, the solutions used in Lidia’s room should be treated as inspiration rather than a ready-made layout to copy.

## FAQ – minimalist room for a 13-year-old girl

## How should you design a minimalist room for a 13-year-old girl?

Start by creating separate areas for studying, sleeping, storage and relaxation. Then choose a calm colour palette and limit the number of unnecessary furniture pieces and decorative elements.

## What colours work well in a minimalist teenage girl’s room?

White, warm beige, light grey and natural wood are excellent choices. Stronger colours can be introduced later through textiles, posters and decorative accessories.

## Is it a good idea to place the desk by the window?

Yes, if the room layout allows it. Natural daylight is a major advantage in a study area, but you should first check the height of the windowsill, how the window opens, the position of the radiator and the required depth of the desk.

## How can you make a white teenage room feel warmer?

Use natural wood, beige textiles, upholstered elements, curtains and warm lighting. This allows white to remain a light and neutral background while preventing the interior from feeling cold.

## Are wooden slats suitable for a teenager’s room?

Yes. Used on one selected wall, wooden slats can create an attractive decorative feature without introducing too many colours. In Lidia’s room, they were used in the sleeping area and combined with a wooden shelf and integrated lighting.

## How can you design a teenage room that will remain suitable for several years?

Choose neutral furniture and timeless materials, while expressing current interests mainly through accessories. This makes it possible to update the character of the room as the teenager grows without carrying out an expensive renovation.
