This **55 m² apartment**, designed for a client from **Lublin, Poland**, shows that even a relatively compact space can become elegant, comfortable and perfectly tailored to the needs of its residents. In this project, we focused on a cohesive warm colour palette, plenty of custom-made storage and an individual character for each room.

The shared living areas are dominated by **beige, cashmere tones, light wood and gold details**, while the private rooms have been given their own distinct personalities. As a result, the entire apartment feels harmonious without becoming monotonous.

It is also a good example of how an interior design can combine an elegant living room and kitchen, a practical entrance hall, functional bedrooms and a bathroom within one consistent concept.

## 55 m² apartment design – a cohesive base tailored to different needs

When designing a 55 m² apartment, one of the most important challenges is making the best possible use of the available space. Every additional wardrobe, shelf or closed storage compartment matters, but too much furniture can also make an interior feel visually smaller.

For this reason, we based the design on **built-in furniture adapted to the full height of the rooms**, simple fronts and a limited colour palette.

Light wood appears throughout most of the apartment, together with warm shades of beige and cashmere. This helps all the individual spaces feel like part of one cohesive interior.

The elements that give the design a more elegant character are the **gold accents**, visible in the lighting, handles, furniture details and bathroom fittings.

## Living room with open-plan kitchen – the heart of the apartment

The most important part of the project is the living room combined with the kitchen and dining area. Despite the relatively compact floor area, several functional zones have been created without making the interior feel cramped or overloaded.

The focal point of the dining area is a **round wooden table with a decorative fluted pedestal base**. This shape works particularly well in smaller apartments – its rounded form makes circulation easier while still allowing several dining chairs to be placed comfortably around it.

The upholstered chairs in a subtle grey-beige shade coordinate with the sofa and the other furnishings.

The living room includes a comfortable sofa, an armchair and a round coffee table. Repeating soft, rounded shapes in the tables, chairs and lighting makes the space feel calmer and more harmonious.

## Decorative wall behind the sofa

One of the strongest visual features of the living room is the wall behind the sofa. Instead of traditional artwork or wooden slats, we used a subtle decorative finish with a **botanical motif in soft beige tones**.

The delicate pattern does not dominate the interior, yet it turns the wall into an elegant decorative backdrop.

The arrangement is complemented by gold wall lights with opal glass globes and linear LED lighting running along the ceiling.

This solution makes it possible to create different lighting scenes. In the evening, there is no need to rely solely on the main ceiling light – the wall lights and indirect LED lighting can create a much warmer and more relaxing atmosphere.

## TV wall – wood, lighting and a light visual form

A dedicated TV and media zone was designed on the opposite side of the living room.

The television is combined with vertical wooden elements and lightweight custom cabinetry. A tall open shelving unit provides space for displaying decorative accessories without introducing additional freestanding furniture.

Wood adds warmth to the light colour palette, while subtle integrated lighting makes the whole structure appear visually lighter, especially in the evening.

This solution shows that a **TV wall in a smaller living room does not have to feel heavy or massive**. Sometimes a few carefully designed elements can create a much more interesting effect than a full wall of cabinetry.

## Cashmere-coloured kitchen

The kitchen was designed in an L-shaped layout and makes maximum use of the available room height.

The kitchen is dominated by **matte cabinetry in a warm cashmere shade**, paired with a light worktop and stone-effect material used on the backsplash.

This is one of those materials that combines a practical function with a strong decorative effect.

The upper cabinets extend high towards the ceiling, creating additional storage space for food, kitchenware and items that are used less frequently.

The tall cabinetry also helps organise kitchen appliances while maintaining the clean and minimalist appearance of the entire area.

A black kitchen tap adds a subtle contrasting detail to the otherwise very light and warm colour palette.

## Entrance hall with plenty of storage

The entrance hall is often one of the most challenging spaces to design. It needs to provide plenty of storage while still remaining a comfortable circulation area.

In this Lublin apartment, we designed **tall wardrobes extending almost to the ceiling**, allowing the space to accommodate much more than standard freestanding furniture.

Large mirrored surfaces visually enlarge the interior and reflect natural and artificial light.

Another section of the hallway features a practical upholstered bench with shoe storage, coat hooks and an illuminated decorative shelving unit.

As a result, the entrance area is not only practical but also visually continues the style introduced in the living room and kitchen.

## Individually designed bedrooms

In the private part of the apartment, we took a slightly different approach from the living area. The basic materials still reference the rest of the apartment, but each room has been designed around the individual needs of its user.

The first room features a calm palette of light wood, beige and warm grey. Despite its compact size, it includes a **bed, a comfortable study area, bookshelves and generous built-in storage**.

Mirrored wardrobe fronts help to visually enlarge the narrow room.

## Minecraft-inspired bedroom

The most colourful room in the entire project is undoubtedly the bedroom designed with motifs inspired by the world of **Minecraft**.

Here, the calm colour palette of the rest of the apartment is contrasted with an intense green.

A distinctive pixel-style pattern appears on the wall behind the bed, creating a bold and highly recognisable backdrop for the entire room.

Additional decorations also reference the game. Green LED lighting, a Creeper motif and other details reflecting the room user's interests were incorporated into the design.

At the same time, functionality was not forgotten. The room includes a large desk, comfortable chair, cabinets, shelving and a bed with additional drawers underneath.

This means the theme is not merely decorative – the entire room remains a fully functional space for **studying, relaxing, storage and developing personal interests**.

## Bright bathroom with wood and gold details

The bathroom is another space that strongly references the elegant style of the living area.

Light stone-effect surfaces with subtle golden veining were used on the walls and floor. Combined with light wood, they create an interior that feels both warm and sophisticated.

The wall-mounted vanity unit provides practical storage while its floating form keeps more of the floor visible, making the room feel lighter.

A large mirror further enhances the sense of space.

The character of the design is defined by **gold taps, handles, towel radiator and other bathroom accessories**.

The bathroom also features several sources of indirect lighting, including illumination near the ceiling, beneath the built-in furniture and around the shelving. This helps emphasise the light stone-effect surfaces and creates a warm atmosphere.

## How to design a functional 55 m² apartment?

This project demonstrates several solutions that work particularly well in apartments of a similar size:

- using floor-to-ceiling built-in storage,

- combining several functions while maintaining clearly defined zones,

- using one consistent material palette throughout the apartment,

- using mirrors to visually enlarge smaller spaces,

- designing custom-made furniture for more challenging areas,

- using LED lighting to complement the main lighting scheme,

- allowing each room to reflect the individual personality of its user.

Above all, it is important to plan the layout carefully before renovation work and furniture purchases begin. An interior design allows you to check furniture proportions, circulation routes, storage capacity and material combinations before these solutions are implemented in the real space.
