Designing a modern 7 m² bathroom is often a bigger challenge than investors initially expect. Especially when the interior needs to include a freestanding bathtub, a shower with a tray, a WC area, a washing machine built-in unit, and plenty of storage, while still looking light, elegant and visually consistent.

In this project, we worked on exactly this type of interior. The investors wanted to create a premium bathroom in warm tones — comfortable for everyday use, yet timeless in its visual character. The key was to combine functionality with an aesthetic inspired by modern hotels and calm minimalism.

We prepared this article for people planning a 7 m² bathroom design and wondering whether it is really possible to comfortably combine a bathtub and a shower in such a space. We show specific design solutions, real functional decisions and elements that truly affect everyday comfort.

The whole article is based on our real project visualizations and our experience in designing modern bathrooms online for clients across Poland. We present solutions that not only look good in renders, but above all work well in everyday use.

## Key design decisions

- In 7 m², we managed to combine a freestanding bathtub, shower and washing machine built-in unit without making the space feel overloaded.

- We chose a bright beige color palette that visually enlarges the interior.

- Gold fittings warm up the space and give the bathroom an elegant character.

- A large LED-backlit mirror significantly improves the overall appearance of the interior.

- A ceiling-mounted towel rack saved valuable wall space.

- Fluted tiles in the WC area introduced a premium effect without excess.

- The washing machine built-in unit improved the aesthetics and organized the space.

## Modern 7 m² bathroom – when does this layout really make sense?

Just a few years ago, many people assumed that a 7 m² bathroom was too small to combine a freestanding bathtub with a shower cabin. Today, the situation looks completely different. With a well-designed functional layout, it is possible to create an interior that is comfortable, aesthetic and suited to everyday life.

In our projects, we increasingly work on medium-sized bathrooms that need to perform several functions at once. Investors today want not only a place for a quick shower, but also a comfortable relaxation area with a bathtub, plenty of storage and a modern aesthetic.

From the very beginning of this project, we knew that the key would be maintaining a balance between functionality and visual lightness. That is why we chose minimalist built-ins, bright materials and a limited number of colors.

## The most common wrong assumptions

- “A bathtub and shower will not fit in 7 m².”

- “A freestanding bathtub always takes up too much space.”

- “The washing machine has to remain visible.”

- “A small bathroom needs many wall cabinets.”

- “Dark details are always more modern.”

- “A large mirror makes no sense in a small bathroom.”

In practice, most of these problems result not from the size itself, but from a poorly planned functional layout.

## Criteria for making good design decisions

When designing a modern 7 m² bathroom, we always begin by analyzing how the interior will be used. A bathroom for one person is designed differently from a family bathroom, and differently again from a bathroom in a premium apartment.

In this project, the most important elements were:

- a comfortable bathing area,

- a large amount of built-in storage,

- an aesthetic way to hide the washing machine,

- a visually light form,

- a warm interior atmosphere,

- easy maintenance and cleaning.

## How we designed this 7 m² bathroom step by step

## Step 1 – functional layout

The functional layout was the absolute foundation of the entire project. It determined whether the interior would look spacious or overwhelming.

We divided the bathroom into three main zones:

- a washbasin area with a large LED mirror,

- a bathing area with a bathtub and shower,

- a storage and washing machine built-in area.

The back-to-wall freestanding bathtub made it possible to achieve a premium effect without losing functionality. This solution works very well in medium-sized bathrooms because it looks visually light, while requiring less space than a classic freestanding bathtub placed centrally.

The WC built-in with a fluted texture also played an important role. It made the wall more decorative while keeping the whole look minimalist.

We hid the washing machine inside a tall furniture unit. This solution greatly improved the overall appearance of the interior. As a result, the bathroom looks calmer and more luxurious.

## Step 2 – colors and materials

In this project, we chose warm minimalism. Bright beiges, creamy tiles and natural wood dominate the interior. This color palette works very well in bathrooms that are meant to remain elegant for many years.

We avoided strong contrasts and aggressive colors. Instead, we focused on light, texture and detail.

The key materials included:

- large bright tiles imitating natural stone,

- decorative fluted tiles by the WC and bathtub,

- built-ins in a warm beige shade,

- wood that warms up the washbasin area,

- gold fittings and accessories.

The gold fittings work very well with the warm tones of the interior. Thanks to this, the bathroom does not look cold or sterile.

## Step 3 – lighting and details

In modern bathrooms, lighting is now one of the most important elements of the design. It creates the atmosphere and affects the perception of the entire space.

In this project, we used several layers of lighting:

- an LED-backlit mirror,

- decorative lighting by the bathtub,

- LED lighting in the WC built-in,

- illuminated shower niches,

- main ceiling lighting.

A very important detail was also the ceiling-mounted towel rack. This solution not only looks modern, but also improves the ergonomics of using the bathroom.

## Variants and exceptions

Not every 7 m² bathroom allows for the same layout. In practice, a lot depends on:

- the position of plumbing risers,

- the location of the window,

- the width of the walls,

- the layout of the entrance door.

In some projects, a walk-in shower works better, while in others a classic shower cabin with a tray is a more practical choice — especially when investors want better water control.

## Typical mistakes and how to fix them

- Too many colors — it is worth limiting the palette to 2–3 dominant materials.

- A mirror that is too small — it visually reduces the space.

- No washing machine built-in unit — the bathroom looks less elegant.

- Poorly selected lighting — the interior may feel cold.

- Furniture that is too massive — it takes away visual space.

- Too many decorations — they create visual chaos.

## 7 m² bathroom design

## What did the design process look like?

At the beginning, the investors were convinced that they would have to give up either the bathtub or the shower. However, after a detailed analysis of the room layout, it turned out that with the right zoning, both solutions could be combined.

We spent the most time working on the proportions of the built-ins. We wanted the washing machine to be almost invisible from the main perspective when entering the bathroom.

We also paid a lot of attention to details. Fluted textures, LED lighting and gold fittings were meant to create the effect of a modern hotel-style interior, but without excessive glamour.

The final result is a bathroom that feels very calm visually, while remaining elegant and functional at the same time.

## Checklist before implementing the bathroom design

- Check the real dimensions of the fittings before purchase.

- Plan the height of the built-ins before the installation work begins.

- Provide storage space for cleaning products.

- Plan additional electrical sockets.

- Choose the right LED light temperature.

- Think through how towels will be dried.

- Check whether the shower cabin opens comfortably.

- Determine the exact tile joint layout before installation.

##

This modern 7 m² bathroom shows that even a medium-sized space can be both highly functional and elegant. The right functional layout, calm color palette and carefully selected details make it possible to create an interior that looks luxurious while remaining comfortable for everyday use.

The most important role here was played by proportions, lighting and limiting the number of materials. Thanks to this, the space does not feel overwhelming despite the large number of functions.
