Calm, functional and designed “for years to come” – this is how we created Mikołaj’s room. Without literal sports themes, but with great ergonomics, excellent lighting and details that highlight the owner’s passions.

## Project assumptions – a timeless base and maximum functionality in 9 m2

The client wanted an interior that would grow together with a 12-year-old. We chose a **neutral palette: grey, white and natural wood**, adding black accents that bring order and structure to the composition. Within 9 m2 we fitted a comfortable **gaming desk**, a **bed with upholstered wall panels**, a **custom-made wardrobe** and a **display cabinet for trophies**. Everything is unified by **LED lighting**, which creates atmosphere and improves everyday comfort.

## Gaming desk and everything within reach

The heart of the daily zone is a **height-adjustable desk** with a comfortable chair. Above the desk we used **cube shelves** in black and wood, and on the wall a **magnetic board** for notes. This solution combines studying and gaming while keeping the interior minimal and tidy.

## Bed with panels – comfort and acoustic calm

The headboard made of **vertical upholstered panels** in graphite fabric provides soft support and acoustic comfort. Above the bed runs a **long shelf** for books, while **LED lighting** in the strip highlights the rhythm of the panels and creates a cozy evening mood. The storage box under the bed solves bedding storage without additional furniture.

## Custom wardrobe with a display cabinet for trophies

The built-in wardrobe is designed in a **matte graphite finish**, with a central **glass display cabinet** and **lighting** that highlights the trophies. This is *personalisation without being literal* – sports appear subtly, through the display of achievements. Slim handles and smooth fronts maintain an elegant, mature look.

## Storage that keeps its form

The wardrobe layout combines **tall modules** for clothing with **drawers** for accessories and **shelves** for books. Thanks to this, the desk top stays clear and the room is easy to keep tidy. It’s a system that works today and will still work in a few years – without the need to replace furniture.

## Light, materials and details

**LED** in the cornices and display cabinet warms up the graphite tones and highlights the wood texture. **Roller blind and curtains** allow control of daylight, while black accents tie the whole composition together. All of this creates a *calm, mature atmosphere* without childish motifs.

- Palette: grey, white, natural wood, black accents.

- Materials: high-durability fabrics, laminates, matte finishes.

- Ergonomics: full-size workstation, proper task lighting.

## Designer’s comment

“From the very first conversation we knew this space had to feel calm for years. We built a base of grey and wood, then added personality through details: the trophy display and clean furniture geometry. It’s a room that supports learning, hobbies and relaxation – without being loud, but with real class.” — Fabryka Projektów Team

## Summary – calm, ergonomics and a style that lasts

Mikołaj’s room proves that **9 m2** is enough to create a mature, functional interior. An ergonomic workstation, a comfortable bed with panels, a spacious wardrobe with a display cabinet and a consistent material palette form a space that supports learning, hobbies and relaxation – today and in the future.

## FAQ – most common questions about a 9 m2 teenage room

## How should furniture be arranged in a 9 m2 room for both studying and gaming?

It works best along the longer wall: the bed with panels and shelf on one side, and the **desk** opposite with access to daylight. This keeps circulation clear and the workstation well lit and organised.

## What should you look for in a gaming desk?

Height adjustment, a worktop depth of at least 70 cm, cable grommets and task lighting of 400–500 lx. A chair with adjustable armrests and lumbar support is also essential.

## Won’t black make a small room feel dark?

In small amounts – no. Black as a detail (shelves, trims, handles) adds structure, and combined with wood and white it gives depth. Good general lighting and LED accents are key.

## What materials should you choose to make the room last for years?

Matte fronts (easy to maintain), scratch-resistant laminates, high-durability fabrics. Keep the colour base neutral so accessories can be easily changed.

## Where to place trophies if you don’t want a sports-themed room?

Integrate a **glass display cabinet** in the middle of the built-in unit – with warm LED lighting. It’s elegant, subtle and easy to keep clean.

## How to store school books and small items?

Combine tall wardrobe modules with **drawers** and **shelves**. Above the desk use cube shelves and a magnetic board. A clear desk improves focus.

## Are slatted panels a good idea in a small room?

Yes, but use them selectively: behind the bed or above a shelf. They add rhythm and warmth, and combined with LED lighting they enhance the space without clutter.

## What general and task lighting should be used?

General lighting: 300–400 lx (LED strips in cornices, ceiling fixtures). Task lighting: adjustable desk lamp, colour temperature 3000–4000 K. LED in the display and above the bed for mood lighting.

## Is a budget of 10–20 thousand PLN realistic?

Yes. An economy option includes modular furniture and simple built-ins; a premium option adds full custom furniture, better hardware, an adjustable desk and dimmable lighting.

## Can the project be done online?

Yes. At Fabryka Projektów we work 100% online: needs survey, consultation, design variants, visualisation video, shopping list and drawings (depending on the package).

## How to keep order in a small room?

“A place for everything”: drawers for small items, baskets in the wardrobe, cable grommets and masking strips. A quick reorganisation of shelves above the desk once a week works wonders.

## How to future-proof the room (age 12 → 16+)?

A neutral base, modular furniture and space for a larger monitor or laptop. Accessories (posters, textiles) can be changed easily without an expensive renovation.
