A living room with a kitchenette is today one of the most important spaces in a modern apartment. This is where everyday life of the household takes place – relaxation, meetings with family, shared meals, and increasingly also remote work. That is why designing this space requires special attention and a well-thought-out concept.

In this project, our task was to create a functional and aesthetic **living room with a kitchenette arrangement with an area of 22m2**. The interior with dimensions of 5.2 × 4.25 m had to accommodate not only a lounge and kitchen area, but also a comfortable **workspace in the living room**. The key design goal was to plan the space so that the desk becomes a natural part of the arrangement rather than an element that disrupts the aesthetics of the living area.

## What you will learn from this article

- how to design a functional **living room with a kitchenette** of about 22m2,

- how to create a comfortable **workspace in the living room**,

- how to combine the lounge, kitchen and work areas within one space,

- which materials and colors work best in modern interior design,

- what to consider when designing built-in furniture in a living room with a kitchen,

- which design solutions help maintain visual consistency in the interior.

## Room analysis

The designed interior is a **living room with a kitchenette with an area of 22m2**. The room has a rectangular layout with dimensions of 5.2 × 4.25 m, which allows the space to be clearly divided into several functional zones.

One of the main design challenges was planning an additional function – a workspace. Modern apartments increasingly require such a space, but it is not always possible to create a separate home office.

That is why in this project we decided on a solution that allows the desk to be integrated into the living room built-in furniture. As a result, a coherent and elegant composition was created where the work zone is comfortable yet visually subtle.

## Interior design concept

The foundation of the design concept was the stylistic consistency of the entire interior. Our goal was to create a modern, bright and timeless arrangement.

The central element of the living room is the TV wall with decorative wooden slats. It is in this part of the interior that we also designed the desk, which forms a natural extension of the TV unit.

This layout helps maintain visual order in the space. The desk does not look like an additional piece of furniture but rather an integral part of the interior design.

The whole arrangement is complemented by decorative shelves with LED lighting and a vertical shelving unit that provides additional storage for documents and books.

## Functional zones

When designing a living room with a kitchenette, it is very important to clearly divide the space into functional areas.

In this project we distinguished four main areas:

- **lounge area** – with a comfortable sofa and TV,

- **kitchen area** – with built-in cabinetry and household appliances,

- **dining area** – with a small table near the window,

- **workspace** – with a desk integrated into the living room furniture.

This layout allows the entire space to be used comfortably without creating a sense of clutter or overcrowding with furniture.

## Material details

The materials used in the project have a huge impact on how the entire interior arrangement is perceived.

In this design we focused on a combination of:

- natural wood,

- light furniture fronts,

- decorative wall slats,

- soft fabrics in the lounge area.

The slats on the TV wall introduce rhythm and depth into the interior while visually warming the space. Thanks to them, the arrangement gains a more elegant and modern character.

## Interior color palette

The color scheme of the living room is based on a calm, natural palette.

The dominant tones include:

- warm shades of beige,

- light wood,

- subtle accents of green.

The green sofa serves as a subtle color accent that enlivens the interior and gives it a cozy character. At the same time, this color works perfectly with the natural materials used throughout the project.

## Comments from the design team

When designing this interior, our main goal was to maintain a balance between aesthetics and functionality.

From our experience, many apartments today require the living room to serve more functions than it used to. That is why we increasingly design small workspaces within this area.

In such situations, solutions integrated with built-in furniture work best. This way the desk does not look like a random element but becomes a natural part of the interior design.

## Designer tips – how to create a workspace in the living room
