A school-age child’s room is a unique space – intensively used, constantly evolving, and serving multiple functions at the same time. In this project for a 9-year-old girl’s room, we focused on creating an interior that is calm, aesthetic, and functional, while remaining timeless for the years to come.

The presented interior design is based on a natural color palette, a delicate wallpaper with botanical motifs, and a thoughtfully planned furniture layout. This interior project subtly matures together with the child – without childish accents, but with a strong emphasis on everyday comfort and a timeless character.

## Room analysis

The designed room has an area of 9,5 m2, which required a very conscious approach to the functional layout. The space is intended for a 9-year-old girl who needs a place for learning, relaxation, and everyday activities.

Our goal was to create an interior arrangement that is orderly, visually light, flexible for future changes in needs, and free from typically childish solutions that quickly become outdated.

## Design concept and key interior elements

The concept is based on a combination of light beige tones, warm wood, and subtle pastel accents. The composition is complemented by a wallpaper with delicate botanical and butterfly motifs, introducing softness and a natural rhythm to the interior.

The built-in furniture was designed in a simple and functional way. A desk with cabinets on both sides provides a comfortable learning space, while wall-mounted shelves organize books and decorations without visually overwhelming the room.

## Functional zones in the girl’s room

Despite the small size, the interior has been clearly divided into functional zones, allowing for comfortable everyday use.

- study zone – an ergonomic desk, comfortable chair, and task lighting

- relaxation zone – a sofa placed against the wall with botanical wallpaper

- storage zone – upper and lower built-in cabinets

- circulation zone – freedom of movement without a sense of visual overload

## Material details

The project uses durable, easy-to-maintain materials that remain aesthetically pleasing over time. Wood warms up the interior, matte furniture fronts bring visual calm, and the wallpaper serves as a decorative background without dominating the space.

Textiles – curtains and cushions – enhance the sense of softness and a homely atmosphere, creating a welcoming environment that encourages relaxation.

## Interior color palette

The dominant colors are beige, cream, and light wood tones, complemented by subtle pastels. This color scheme visually enlarges the space, has a calming effect, and creates a neutral base for future changes in accessories.

## Design team commentary

*When designing this room, from the very beginning we wanted to create a space that would not be a short-term solution. We aimed for an interior that would remain relevant in the coming years, which is why we chose a subdued base, natural materials, and functional solutions that can be easily adapted.*
