Designing a children’s room is always a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and needs that change quickly as a child grows. In this project, we worked on a **girls’ bedroom design for a 10-year-old with a total area of 9m2**. Our goal was to create a bright, calm, and well-organized interior that supports everyday activities such as studying, relaxing, and developing personal interests. The leading theme of the project became a love for horses, presented in a subtle and timeless way.

## What you will learn from this article

- how to plan a functional interior design for a child’s room measuring 9m2,

- how to combine a thematic motif with a universal interior base,

- how to define functional zones in a small bedroom,

- which materials and colors work best in a bedroom for a 10-year-old girl,

- what to focus on when designing a room that grows with the child.

## Room analysis

The designed room has an area of 9m2 and a rectangular layout, with access to natural daylight thanks to a large window. The main challenge was fitting all essential functions in an ergonomic and visually light way. The key needs of the young user included a comfortable sleeping area, a full-size study zone, storage space, and decorative elements referring to her passion for horses.

The design assumption was to avoid overly literal “childish” solutions in favor of an arrangement that will remain relevant for many years.

## Concept and key interior elements

The interior concept is based on a bright, neutral foundation complemented by soft pastel accents and a horse motif in the form of a large-format wall mural. The built-in furniture was designed in white, which visually enlarges the space and brings order to the room.

The central element of the bedroom is an upholstered bed with a high headboard, serving not only as a sleeping area but also as a comfortable spot for reading. Above the desk, we designed light shelving and an organization system that helps maintain order while displaying favorite items.

## Functional zones

Despite the small size, the interior has been clearly divided into functional zones:

- **sleeping zone** – with a comfortable bed and soft textiles,

- **study zone** – an ergonomic desk placed by the window and a comfortable chair,

- **storage zone** – lower and upper built-in units, shelves, and storage compartments,

- **relaxation zone** – a place for reading and resting, designed for flexible use.

## Material details

In this project, we focused on durable and easy-to-maintain materials. Smooth furniture fronts, upholstered elements with a pleasant texture, and natural-looking flooring dominate the interior. Textile accessories such as curtains, cushions, and a pouf add softness and coziness without overwhelming the space.

## Interior color palette

The color palette is based on light shades of white, beige, and soft pastels. Subtle greens and blues appear in accessories and textiles, referencing nature and the horse motif. This color scheme supports concentration, relaxation, and creates a friendly atmosphere for everyday use.

## Design team insights

When designing this room, our goal was to create a space that would not be just a “child’s bedroom,” but a fully developed interior tailored to the lifestyle of a young user. We treated the horse motif as an inspiration rather than a dominant theme, which allows the arrangement to remain timeless and flexible.
