## Active Teen Space – a Room Design for a 12-Year-Old with a Home Sports Zone, 16m2

A teen’s room today is much more than just a place to sleep. It is a space that needs to keep up with the energy, interests, and changing daily rhythm of a young user. In this project, our goal was to create an interior that combines learning, physical activity, and relaxation while remaining orderly and visually balanced. The arrangement was meant to be modern, functional, and realistic to recreate in everyday conditions – without excessive custom-built furniture.

## What You’ll Learn from This Article

- how to plan an interior arrangement for a teen room in an attic space,

- how to combine a sports zone, study area, and relaxation space within 16m2,

- which pieces of furniture work best as ready-made solutions and where custom-built furniture makes sense,

- how colors and materials influence the perception of the interior,

- how to create a space that grows along with the child.

## Room Analysis – The Starting Point for the Design

The designed room has an area of 16m2 and is located in the attic, which naturally introduces limitations in the form of sloped ceilings. A key challenge was properly using walls with varying heights while maintaining enough free space for movement. The user is a 12-year-old boy – active, interested in sports and technology, and in need of a space for both studying and releasing energy.

Our aim was to create a highly functional interior without a cluttered effect. It was also important that most of the furnishings consist of ready-made furniture available in stores – easy to replace or adapt as the child grows.

## Interior Concept – Functionality Without Chaos

The concept is based on a simple and clear layout. The central part of the room was kept as open as possible, allowing comfortable use of the sports zone. The walls play an organizing role – each one corresponds to a different activity.

With the exception of the custom wardrobe under the slope, all furniture pieces are ready-made solutions: a bed with storage, a desk, shelving units, and seating. This makes the arrangement flexible and easy to modify in the future without costly renovations.

## Functional Zones – How the Room Works Day to Day

## Study Zone

The desk is positioned against a wall near the window, ensuring access to natural daylight, which is essential for studying and computer work. The simple furniture form and wall-mounted shelves help maintain order while keeping the space visually light.

## Sports Zone

One of the key elements of this arrangement is the home sports zone – a gym ladder with additional accessories. This solution allows for daily physical activity without leaving the house and perfectly suits the needs of a young, active user.

## Relaxation Zone

The bed with an upholstered headboard is placed in the lowest part of the room, making natural use of the sloped ceiling. Additional poufs and a soft rug create a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere – ideal for unwinding after a busy day.

## Material Details – Durability and Consistency

We chose a combination of smooth, light surfaces with warm wood tones and black accents. The materials are durable, easy to maintain, and visually timeless – an important factor in a teen room that will be heavily used over the years.

## Interior Color Scheme – A Balance of Energy and Calm

The base of the arrangement is white and light wood, which visually enlarges the space. Navy blue accents add depth and character, while black details emphasize the modern style of the interior. This palette supports concentration without feeling monotonous.

## Fabryka Projektów Team Commentary

“In this project, finding a balance between energy and order was essential. We wanted the room to feel active but not chaotic – a space that supports a teen’s everyday life rather than complicating it.”
