D[esigning a shared bedroom for two teenage sisters](https://f-projektow.pl/en/25-projekt-pokoju-mlodziezowego-projektowanie-pokoju.html) is a task that requires sensitivity and very conscious design decisions. At the ages of 12 and 15, the space needs to offer not only a place to sleep, but also individual zones for studying, relaxation, and quiet time. In this project, we worked on a room with an area of 19.5m2 (5 × 3.9m), with the goal of creating an interior that is modern, cozy, and able to grow together with its users.

## From this article you will learn:

- how to functionally divide a room for two sisters without full-height walls,

- why wooden slats are the perfect compromise between privacy and natural light,

- how to plan two study zones with a single room entrance,

- how to combine a modern style with a cozy, feminine character,

- which materials and colors work best in a teenage bedroom,

- how to design an interior that remains functional for many years.

## Room analysis – size, layout, and users’ needs

The starting point was a rectangular room with an area of 19.5m2, featuring a single entrance and two windows. From the very beginning, the key assumption was to provide each sister with access to natural light and a sense of personal space, even within a shared room.

The main design challenge was combining several important elements: a shared entrance, the need to divide the room, a radiator located under the window, and the desire to maintain a bright and light interior. The goal was to create a space that feels modern, functional, and cozy, without a sense of enclosure or heaviness.

## Design concept – a light division of space

The foundation of the entire arrangement is a visual division of the room using wooden slats. This solution made it possible to create two distinct zones without building solid walls. The slats gently separate the spaces while preserving natural light and visual openness.

Each sister received her own part of the room with a bed, a desk, and dedicated storage. The layout was designed symmetrically, emphasizing harmony and visual order.

## Functional zones – sleeping, studying, and storage

In this design, we clearly defined three main functional zones:

- a sleeping zone with comfortable beds and upholstered headboards,

- a study zone with desks positioned by the windows,

- a storage zone with built-in wardrobes and cabinets.

Desks placed by the windows provide ideal conditions for studying and reading, which was especially important as both girls love books. The furniture was designed to avoid visual heaviness while still offering comfortable and practical storage for each sister.

## Materials and details – modernity and warmth

The interior combines smooth, matte furniture fronts in beige and cashmere tones with natural wood. The slats, flooring, and finishing details warm up the space and give it a welcoming, home-like character.

Black structural and lighting elements introduce a modern accent, highlighting the geometric nature of the design and adding elegant contrast.

## Interior color palette – beige, cashmere, and subtle black

The color base of the project consists of light beige and cashmere tones, creating a calm and neutral background that supports concentration and relaxation. Black appears only in the details, allowing the interior to remain light and contemporary.

This is a color palette that does not overwhelm visually and remains timeless regardless of changing trends.

## Design team commentary

When designing this room, we knew from the start that balance would be the key – between shared space and privacy. Wooden slats allowed us to create two independent micro-worlds within a single interior, without closing off the space or compromising access to natural light. We also wanted the design to be timeless and to serve the girls well for many years.

## Summary

This project shows that a room for two sisters can be functional, modern, and very cozy at the same time. A thoughtful spatial layout, a subdued color palette, and carefully refined details ensure that the interior responds to real, everyday needs.

It is an arrangement that grows together with its users and remains relevant at every stage of their adolescence.
